Bacterial Eye Infection |
Turtle World |
Tour (recom.) |
These often begins as a small white spot on the surface of the cornea (the clear
front portion of the eye), and as the infection progresses it can spread over the
entire surface leading to a puffy/swollen eyeball. Infections may also occur
in the eyelids creating irritation and swelling. Eye-infection generally occurs due to contaminated/dirty water in the habitat. Remedial Measures 1. Apply antibiotic eye drops with neomycin, chloramphenicol or gentamycin. 2. Keep turtle dry for 45 minutes. 3. Return to a habitat with absolutely fresh and clean water. If this is difficult to ensure in your normal habitat make a quarantine habitat using a smaller container. Make this solution 1-2% Betadyne (or any other Iodine tincture) and let the turtle stay in this tank for a few days. Always ensure that the quarantine tank is maintained at 26-29oC or 80-85oF. 4. Repeat process twice daily. |
